The former Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs, has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of hiding Nana Appiah Mensah in Ghana.

According to him, the ruling party was shielding the beleaguered Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Menzgold Ghana Limited.

Per a report by Peacefmonline he further stated that the NPP was now trying to dissociate themselves from business deals they have had with Mensah, who is popularly known as NAM1.

“NPP are hiding the guy; he’s around and hiding in Ghana and spewing statements. He’s walking within the corridors of power; they are all in his pocket. He’s going scot-free and people are crying; people are dying. It has never happened in this country.” he said on Peace FM on Wednesday, January 9, 2019.

He further stated that NAM1 never jumped bail as it is being alleged, as he was neither arrested nor released on bail. Allotey Jacobs also noted that NAM1 revealed he invested GHC20 million into NPP’s 2016 election campaign, but failed to provide evidence when called upon to do so.

He went ahead to say that the government needed to address the concerns of the Menzgold clients, as their ignorance should not be used against them. Customers have been demanding their investments since the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) instructed Menzgold to halt its gold trading operations.

The minister of finance, Ken Ofori Atta, has however ruled out any possibility of the government bailing out customers of Menzgold Ghana Limited.
