Adenta Footbridges: Road Minister Gives Timeline For Completion

Residents of Madina and Adenta in the Greater Accra region can now heave a sigh of relief following an assurance by the government to fix their footbridges by next year.

Minister for Roads and Transport, Kwasi Amoako-Atta said the contractor has been asked to come back to site for the completion of the staircases on the six footbridges on the Madina/Adenta/Aburi highway.

His comment follows a planned demonstration by residents in the area over the incessant deaths recorded on the road.

The residents under the coalition name fixourfootbridgesnow will on November 12, 2018, hit the streets to express their displeasure to the government.

Speaking in an interview, the Roads Minister said the footbridges will be fixed in 2019.

He explained that the government was not able to pay 50 percent of the contract sum so China Water Corporation abandoned the site.

However, Hon. Amoako Atta said President Akufo-Addo has instructed the Finance Minister to pay the contractor to complete the bridges.

“I’m not happy about the deaths recorded on the roads but I plead with residents to exercise patience so we work to fix the footbridges” he stated.

Hon.  Amoako-Atta also revealed plans are far advanced to complete the six footbridges on the N4 Highway within 2019 for pedestrian safety.
