The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology’s (KNUST) demonstration which was expected to be a peaceful walk has turned into a violent one.

The demonstration which the students say was to end the management’s oppression of students has gotten out of hand with hundreds of students having boycotted lectures to join the melee.

The university has been reluctant in granting the students permits to organise what is known as “morale sessions” since some halls have been converted to mixed facilities.

Over the years, residents of Katanga hall have clashed with their rivals, Unity Hall, during such sessions which normally travel deep into the night.
