4 Arrested For Robbing Chinese

Four persons, who allegedly robbed two Chinese nationals of their gold dust and other items at Efuanta in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality of the Western Region, have been arrested by the police.

The names of the suspects were given as Nana Owusu, 22 and Alex Kojo Fairka, 27, both illegal miners, Kwabena Ali, 25, a farmer and Gideon Atieka, 27, a driver.

According to the police, the suspects allegedly raided the mining site of the foreigners, attacked them and made away with their belongings.

Supt Thomas Ababio, Tarkwa District Police Commander, disclosed that on August 2, 2018 at about 12:30 am, the police patrol team in Tarkwa received a distress call that armed robbers had attacked some Chinese at a small-scale mining site at Efuanta.

He mentioned that the police, who quickly rushed to the scene, were informed by the two Chinese citizens and Ghanaian security guard that armed robbers had attacked them.

According to the complainants, the armed robbers subjected them to severe beatings and made away with the gold dust, three mobile phones, a flat-screen television set and decoder.

The police patrol team subsequently informed their counterparts at Tamso Junction to assist in apprehending the suspects.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that about 30 minutes later the suspected armed robbers arrived in a taxi with registration number GX 5197-14 driven by one Stephen Nyame.

It was intercepted by the police at Tamso Junction with Gideon Atieka, Kwabena Ali and Nana Owusu on board.

A search conducted on them revealed the gold dust which had not been refined.

The police patrol team later transported the three suspects to the Tarkwa Police Station for interrogation.

The three suspects told the police that they hired the services of the taxi driver to transport them to Ahwetieso, a suburb of Tarkwa.

However, the suspects mentioned the name of Kojo Fairka, who was subsequently arrested by the Tarkwa District Police Command. The complainants- He Jang and Cheng Wen-Hua, who had bruises all over their bodies, later reported the matter to the police and identified the suspects.

The police said they had intensified their search for the leader of the gang and another suspect, who are currently at large.
