Allotey Jacob Blasts NDC Over Charlotte Osei

The Central regional chairman of the largest opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs has accused President Akufo Addo for failing to held  stakeholders  consultation prior to the nomination of the new EC boss and her deputies.

He said the winner-takes-all approach by  President Akufo Addo will affect the the democratic credentials of the country in the near future

President  Akufo-Addo has named Jean Adukwei Mensah of  Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), as the new chairperson of the Electoral Commission.

This was announced in a statement from the Presidency  signed and issued by the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare on Monday, July 23, 2018.

Mr Samuel Tettey and Dr Eric Bossman Asare have been named as the first and second deputies respectively by the president.

The fourth person who is being considered for appointment as a Member of the Commission is Ms. Adwoa Asuama Abrefa, a corporate legal practitioner.

The Minority in Parliament and the NDC have opposed  the nomination of Jean Mensa and Eric Bossman Asare because they  have links to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and that their nomination for consideration for appointment, were part of NPP’s moves to influence the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections in their favour.

Speaking on Adom TV’s morning show dubbed ‘Badwam’, Allotey Jacobs slammed the leadership of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) for failing to defend Charlotte Osei ,adding that, the leadership of the party should have organized a massive demonstration after the dismissal Charlotte Osei.

“The leadership of the party should have called on the rank and file, should have consulted with us,should have moved to the regions but they sat unconcern until Charlotte Osei was dismissed.

There has not been any stakeholder meeting. I expected President Nana Akufo Addo to have held a stakeholder consultation with all stakeholders to ensure that the yet-to-be nominated EC is with fault” , he said on ‘Badwam’ on Tuesday, July 24

According to Allotey, the NPP when in opposition advocated for the removal of Charlotte Osei.

“There was there preparation to get rid of Charlotte Osei when the NPP were in opposition. They advocated for the removal of Charlotte Osei”
