The Skipper of the Black Stars,Asamoah Gyan has advised Ghanaians to desist from saying that Ghana would’ve won the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
It is the first time since 1982 that Africa has failed to get representation in the knockout stage after Senegal,Morrocco,Egypt,Tunisia and Nigeria failed to make any meaningful impact from their respective groups.
Africa’s best performance since debuting at the World Cup in 1934 has been quarter-final berths by Cameroon, Senegal and Ghana in 1990, 2002 and 2010 respectively.
Many football enthusiasts have indicated that Ghana would’ve won or gotten to the Semi-finals at this year’s most glamorous football competition if the Black Stars had qualified looking at the standard of play.
In an exclusive interview with Papa Maestro, host of Hot Sports Reloaded on Accra-based HOT 93.9FM,via telephone from his base in Turkey, monitored by Razzonline.com,the legendary Asamoah Gyan, delineated astonishingly that:
“ You see talk is cheap…everybody can say we would’ve won if we were there, people have told me the same thing that we would’ve won if we were there but the thing is we are not there…it’s assuming …we were hoping but since we are not there we should stop saying we would’ve won”.
Upon persuasion to reveal the country he believes will win the world cup , the all-time Africa’s best goal scorer at the World Cup with six goals, told Papa Maestro that he can’t really tell which country is going to win.
